Anime Expo (AX)

Anime Expo (also known as AX) is the largest Northern American Anime convention that is annually held in Southern California’s Los Angeles Convention Center. This is the Mecca of Anime conventions in North America. Drawing in 44,000+ people from all around the U.S. and the world for the three-day event, and like Disney World, there is just way too much to do, too much to see and too many people to meet.

Each year, Anime Expo brings not just anime and manga, but musical performances, crazy (and I mean crazy-good!) cosplay costumes, and so many fantastic opportunities to enrich our knowledge of Japanese pop culture. This year proves to be another great Fourth of July weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center with Guests of Honor including:

    * Japanese Musical Group AKB48
    * Voice Actor Kyle Hebert
    * Animation Director Toshihiro Kawamoto
    * Seiyuu Yuu Asakawa
    * J-rock Band SOPHIA
    * Anime Director Shinichi "Nabeshin" Watanabe

On the other hand, groups from Spain and American also did a great job in this show. The Spain group played characters from < Candy Candy>, with their lovely face and beautiful cosplay sale, the group won great recognition form the judging panel and finally got the winning prize. The USA groups brought us a fabulous cosplay originated from Cardcaptor Sakura, with their unique mould and professional performance, they won the Special Recognition Award. Saint Seiya

Which character from Saint Seiya is your favorite? Pisces Aphrodite, pandora or Athena? Do you want to bring them into life with fabulous Cosplay Costumes?

A recurring motif in the Pisces Saint is that he considers victory as the greatest beauty of all and, therefore, he believes what makes him really beautiful would not be his physique, but absolute power. Aphrodite is depicted as a man who believes the power is the only way to keep the order and assure the justice. 

Pisces Aphrodite is the last of the Gold Saints introduced by Kurumada in his manga, formally presented in vol.11. Aphrodite was a Saint famous not only because of his incredible, mesmerizing beauty, but also for his reputation as one of the strongest among the 88 Saints. However, this reputation is not explored very well in the series itself, as he is killed by Andromeda Shun rather easily by Gold Saint standards, and is beaten rather easily by Aries Mu during the Hades Saga.

Gold Saint Gemini Saga once stated that Aphrodite’s beauty was the greatest among Athena’s Saints. Kurumada named him after the Greek Goddess of love and beauty as a reference to the Greek myth associated to the Pisces constellation. However, Aphrodite never claimed to be the most beautiful creature, unlike the Silver Saint, Lizard Misty who claimed that even the stars’ splendor dimmed next to his glory.

It is notable that despite his incomparable beauty, Aphrodite is not narcissistic. He is often described as cruel as his fellow Gold Saint, Cancer Deathmask, but not as sadistic. He is also ironic and sarcastic. According to Saga, despite his beauty, Aphrodite is the most feared of all the 88 Saints of Athena, however, as explained above, this may be due to his cruel nature as opposed to his fighting prowess. His reputation is supported more in the still non-canonical Saint Seiya Episode G, when Aphrodite appeared in front of the Titan’s soldiers who were awe-struck due to his beauty but also paralyzed by fear in his presence.

Choosing a Cosplay

First, one must know the reason why they are cosplaying. Is the costume for fun, a challenge to oneself or to impress others?

A costume made to enjoy the fun of a convention can be casual and easy to make. Accuracy is not the main concern; instead it is about enjoying the cosplay experience and getting the feel of the character.

Look for characters with a personal connection or a fan favourite.

If it is a challenge oneself should be more difficult to construct and take into consideration one’s previously made Cosplay Costumes. Look for costumes which require learning new techniques like armour making, or

stenciling. For example if props are a trouble spot consider trying it again and improving those skills.

A costume to impress others, say masquerade judges, requires some research. Look into what others have done online or at conventions and see what can improved on. This costume must stand out so it must have

elements that catch the eye, like intricate details or large props. It usually is not a main character, but it has mesmerizing features.

Which natural features can be used to an advantage: height, eye colour, build, face structure, hair colour and length etc. If there are any features in common it will make the costume appear natural giving

the cosplayer an edge. If there is not much common ground then do not worry, it may just mean spending a few more dollars to get contacts and a wig.

What is the character’s personality like? If there are similarities it will add to the cosplay persona, making the costume more believable in person.

How much time is needed to complete the costume? If there is little time, consider switching to a simpler version of the costume or changing to a different character. When commissioning a costume allow some

extra time in case of hiccups. Plan ahead if there is a lot time. Order materials as soon as possible and get started. Complicated costumes need much time and require some shopping around.

Final Fantasy X Rikku Cosplay

Itadaki Street Special features a miniature Rikku in her Final Fantasy X-2 outfit, along with Yuna and Paine.She won the award for “Hottest Character” in G4’s 2004 G-Phoria awards show and the “Viewers’ Choice: Baddest Good Girl” on G4’s Video Game Vixens in 2005. Her voice actor, Tara Strong, won an award for “Outstanding Character Performance” at the Interactive Achievement Awards in 2004 for her portrayal of Rikku.

Rikku (リュック Ryukku) is a fifteen-year-old Al Bhed who helps Tidus when he first arrives in Spira, but then disappears from the story for a while, becoming the last character to join Yuna’s entourage of guardians. She is bilingual, able to speak both English and Al Bhed fluently. Rikku’s character class is most similar to that of the Thief from earlier Final Fantasytitles, combined with the Chemist class. She can steal a large variety of items from fiends and bosses alike, many of which can only be acquired through theft. She also is able to dismantle Machina with her theft command. The ability to customize becomes unlocked only after Rikku permanently joins the party. Her attitude is somewhat childish, but is also quite cheerful and positive. An Al Bhed, she is also Yuna’s cousin and loves her dearly, and, as such, wishes to prevent her from going through with her pilgrimage, becoming particularly insistent as the party climbs Mount Gagazet toward Zanarkand. She is also the one who informs Tidus that Yuna would die if she summoned her Final Aeon. In battle, Rikku uses a variety of claw-like weapons. After the Calm, Rikku visited Yuna at Besaid often before the events of X-2. Rikku returns in Final Fantasy X-2 as a main protagonist, now seventeen years old and prominently featured as a Thief. She was also the one who convinced Yuna to leave Besaid on a journey after showing her a mysterious sphere featuring a familiar person.

Rikku also appears in Kingdom Hearts Cosplay as a miniature fairy version of herself wearing modified versions of her Final Fantasy X-2 attire . Much like her Final Fantasy Cosplay, Rikku is a bit ditzy and good-natured as well as a treasure fanatic like her teammates. Her scarf acts more like wings for her to float off the ground, as all three levitate off the floor through various means (the scarf for Rikku, a hair-clip for Yuna, and demonic wings for Paine). The trio appear in Hollow Bastion to spy on Leon and company for Maleficent who offered them all the treasure they could want. In their first encounter, Rikku almost told Sora who they worked for, but Paine quickly stopped her from doing so. However, they eventually aid in the defense of Hollow Bastion, after Maleficent abandoned them and then being lied to by Donald that Leon would pay the trio for their help. Rikku and others did forgive Sora and his partners for the deception by giving Sora the keychain of the Gullwing Keyblade. She was originally intended to appear in the original Kingdom Hearts as a member of Leon’s group, but was replaced by Yuffie to avoid confusion over her name, since the Kingdom Hearts series already has an important character named Riku; however, Yuffie’s Cosplay Costumes in the originalKingdom Hearts is the same one that was intended for Rikku in the game. In Kingdom Hearts II, her name is never spoken, perhaps to avoid this confusion; however, if the player talks to Paine before confronting Yuna after the Battle of Hollow Bastion, Paine addresses Rikku by her name, ordering her to stop singing before noticing Sora, Donald, and Goofy standing there.

As a huge fan of the anime and manga series, "Bleach", and an appreciator of incredible anime cosplay, I thought it would be interesting to treat you to a fun gallery I’ve compiled of some of the best Bleach cosplay I’ve ever seen- so far anyway.

-Don’t complain if you or your favorite aren’t in here- there’s no reason why we couldn’t have more fun Bleach galleries like this one in the future- and who’s to say you’re not an elite?

That’s my rules anyway- you may or may not agree, but that’s my reasoning behind this gallery- I feel the folks in the pics ahead have really done well.

The bleach cosplay manga series is set in fantastic realm of adventure where the characters are divided into several factions and races with distinct characteristics. At the moment that a member of any faction dies they may or may not be able to actually rest in peace. Those souls who do get to rest find themselves in a place called Soul Society. There they live for a very long time in a resurrected body or may become part of a military order of caretakers called Soul Reapers who care for the souls of the dead.

The main character is a teenager named Ichigo Kurosaki who is mistakenly given the powers of a Soul Reaper by a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki. This happened quickly and by accident in the heat of an epic battle. Ichigo, even though not comfortable with his new powers, finds himself fighting against colossal creatures called “hollows” which are the souls of those who are not able to rest in peace after death. During the series, Ichigo’s friends discover that they too have their own powers which are manifested by the mere presence of Ichigo.

Because Rukia inadvertently passed her powers on to the living Ichigo, the Soul Society passed a death sentence on her because of the mistake. Ichigo’s first exciting adventure is breaching the Soul Society with his friends to rescue Rukia from a sure death at the hands of her fellow Soul Reapers. During the rescue, many mysteries come to light and a variety of new characters are introduced, including the evil Sosuke Aizen, a Soul Reaper captain who wields great powers and promises to bring death and destruction to Ichigo and his friends.
